Mission Statement
The mission of the Washington D.C. Metropolitan Area Cheyney Alumni Association is to:
- Increase the quality of education at Cheyney University
- Increase student enrollment at Cheyney University
- Provide financial support for Cheyney University
- Increase alumni participation in the metropolitan D.C. area
Chapter History
The Washington D.C. Metropolitan Area Cheyney University Alumni Association was founded in the 1950s. The original members were Henrietta Gould, Dr. Alvin Gross, Esther Irving, Purnell “Penny” Lawrence and Marjorie Ross. The Chapter gained momentum with the addition of Eunice Murray who insisted that whatever we do “has to be first class and has to be big”. The early members raised funds through bus trips to plays and restaurants in New York City, boat rides, a train trip to California and a trip to Hawaii.
